Poor performance Sent: 15 June 2010 Bought these for a Ski holiday - open mountains, low interference etc so expected pretty good performance given we'd be nowhere near the advertised 10km range.
They struggled at even up to 1km and seem to struggle with almost any objects interrupting the direct line of the signal.
Also recently took them on a sun holiday and struggled even with a single wall in between 2 handsets.
They have now largely been relegated to toys. There must be better products out there & while I can't recommend any I'd suggest having a better look than I did.
Worked well on ski holiday Sent: 02 February 2010 Like others, I bought these for a recent skiing holiday so that the different members of the family could keep in touch. They worked very well and allowed us to talk to each other over really large areas, as long as we were in the same valley. Once spoke to my wife in the village hotel room while at the top of the mountain at 3000m. Could barely see the hotel below.
Did pick up other people sometimes but just adjusted the settings if that happened. Small units and easy to carry. Recommended.
Great for convoys Sent: 07 January 2010 I purchased two sets of these (Doro Radio 2-Way Twinpack) as we had three cars going on a driving trip around England. They worked really well on the motorways and allowed us to communicate freely.
So far as interference goes. I couldn't get them to work in the house, but then I live in a listed house that is built like a bunker!! They still worked well even when we got separated by two or three cars on the motorways. Also we got split up in a multi story car park at one stage and they still worked so I think it really does depend on the situation.
I never did use the ear piece so I cant really comment what that's like.
Only once did we get cross channel interference and that was driving through a high street so it was hardly surprising.
We charged the devices every night and didn't suffer from them running out of power (even after everyone did their best Top Gun impressions).
If your driving in convoy anywhere I would highly recommend these.
Compact and easy to use Sent: 30 March 2009 We used these walkie talkies for a road trip around Europe. I was supprised how compact and efficient they were - the headset proved very useful. They proved to have good range but clarity suffered at long distances. They need to be charged fully for a 4-5hr journey. VOX mode seems to be too slow at picking up voice chatter despite controllable sensitivity. Overall, they are a great value product.
Good item - but no support! Sent: 26 March 2009 I've had this item for over 9 months now and the item is very small and is a good product. However I'm very disappointed in Doro UK. I dropped one and needed a replacement. Forget it! The advice is that even though Doro make them that they won't ever split a pack for this and their advice is to buy another two. This is unacceptable in my opinion. After much discussion, someone at Doro UK was willing to split a pack but (wait for it) wanted £30 for a single handset. My suggestion is find another brand with a greater level of support.
