Product Description The Samsung DVD-V6800 not only plays DVDs; it also plays VHS tapes. It records to both formats too, so you can watch a film on a VHS tape while recording your favourite TV programme onto a DVD. The DVD-V6800 can also transfer films from DVDs to VHS tapes and is compatible with Dolby Digital, DTS and PCM. It’s even equipped with a full set of connectors, allowing you to get the best out of your favourite films and TV programmes.
Cheap, Easy and Effective Sent: 15 December 2008 The Samsung DVD-V6800 is a straightforward machine. Inexpensive, and does the job well of playing both tapes and discs. Some descriptions of what it does are somewhat confusing so for all clarity: it does not record DVD's, but it does record on VHS. Therefore it does not copy from VHS to DVD either. Miss Hawthorne's 'recipe' of making the machine accept DVD's from all regions works fine, which is useful if you can get DVD's on Ebay cheap because they are not region 2: you just redefine the player as region 9 (i.e.: all regions) and you can play any DVD. Works fine too with DVD's recorded on other machines, or copies of DVD's.
Screen-menu's are clear and intuitive; setting up the machine is child's play.
A lot of machine for the little money you pay.
All working very well Sent: 05 December 2008 For the price this seems an excellent little unit. Unlike the other reviews have had no problems with any playback or the remote. Maybe I'm just lucky but cant find anything bad to say on this. All media plays well too.
clunky but works Sent: 03 December 2008 I bought this unit 4 months ago. Overall I have been slightly disappointed as the unit is a bit sluggish in it's mechanical operations - eg while rewinding, or jumping to next section of DVD etc, and is quite noisy - lots of whirring and clicking.
I have already had it fixed because the DVDs would freeze while playing, and then get stuck in the machine. (The repair was free as it's in its 1 year warranty.)
Other than all that, it does play VHS tapes and DVDs in the way you would expect. I haven't tried recording onto vhs yet.
But I would hesitate before recommending this product and kind of wish I'd bought something else.
