Panasonic 37TXLZD800 Sent: 31 December 2008 Amazon delivered this TV promptly and I was not disappointed with what came out of the box. Wow! This is a fantastic TV. The Panel is stylish and well made. Set-up was easy and automatic. I linked the TV to a Panasonic DVD/HDD machine, a cable TV box, and a Wii - all with no problem. I used an HDMI lead to connect my upscaling DVD player and what a difference - thought I was watching a Blue Ray disc! Freeview pictures are excellent - some channels better than others - overall better than I expected. This is a flagship model and the extra money gets you much better sound - I can honestly say there is no need to get a home cinema/surround sound system for this TV. This TV is worth the extra money - better than the lesser models PX80 (Plasma) and LZD80/85 series.
Great freeview - lousy HDMI Sent: 21 December 2008 Great Freeview lousy HDMI
First the plus points - great video processing through the "Freeview" decoder. Sound excellent.
Niggles
The guide occupies only a small part of the screen - the rest cluttered with space for adverts, and instructions. Seem to be changing page all the time to see what is on.
Some back light bleed in the top left and bottom right, and only moderately encouraging noises from Panasonic about getting it fixed / changed. Reading round seems to be a very common problem with this unit.
Very difficult to get the facial colour tone correct
Unacceptable
When connected through SCART, HDMI there is no up-sampling. Have a nearly new Sony HDD recorder / DVD player, this has massive ghosting and "very blocky" display through SCART, only slightly improved when connecting the HDMI. Sent the TV back.
My opinion - great TV if you are going to go for high def TV and BlueRay. If you have old DVD's / or a HDD recorder forget it, and keep your old CRT!
An awsome tour de force by Panasonic. Sent: 03 November 2008 The tv came the next day in a giant box that blocked the hallway.Remove it from the packing and carry carefully to lounge.Quite heavy! Plug in power and ariel and switch on. It sets itself up. This is a whole new entertainment experience. I watched it in disbelief at the extraordinary realism and couldn't tear myself away. Then I plugged in my Panasonic DVD recorder DMREZ28,using HDMI, selected zoom 2 on the picture option and I was at the pictures watching Jason Bourne. Even though I've seen it many times I watched it all the way through rivetted to the sofa. As a retired musician and music teacher the sound on full sythesised surround was superb.Selecting the 'over 30 cm from the wall' option boosts the bass.I chose this set because I didn't want a home cinema speaker set so as not to annoy next door. The clever idea is that the speakers are in the back and bounce off the wall behind. Simulating cinema sound without shaking the floor and causing next door to knock on the wall.
As a word of warning. You will find yourself watching programmes you have already seen, in wonder at what you missed.
You won't get much done because even the news looks great.
I was looking at a Samsung that was two hundred cheaper but you need a speaker set so it comes out the same. It is well worth the extra to have it all in one box. This is as near perfect as a TV set can get.
Unbeatable Sent: 03 September 2008 The 37LZD800 is unbeatable in its class. The built in freeview quality is outstanding and thats with only a 5/10 digital broadcasting strength here.
When hooked up to a bd30 blu-ray player it reminds you why you happily paid £900 for it, that said though if you are buying an lcd to make the most of 24p(blu ray movies only) then this tv and all lcd tvs struggle with the pull down. I have some annoying jittering and borders on moving objects, which panasonic say they can't fix but they have sorted it on the top end plasmas! Its still worth 5 stars though because it performs exellently on every other level.
The sound, WOW how do they do it you just don't need a secondary sound system with this tv.
I love it
Excellent Picture .... Superb Sound Sent: 01 September 2008 I did a lot of research before opting for this. 100Hz scan was high on my priorities. Setup was a doddle - switch it on and off it goes! Connectivity is great with 3 HDMI on the back, one on the side, plus 2 SCART, Even on standard freeview, the picture quality is one of the best I've ever seen on LCD and on HD it is outstanding! The sound quality is also excellent. Highly recommended!!
