CUSTOMER REVIEWS

What a stunner Rating stars Sent: 06 January 2009
I can see what the fuss is about. I really bought this set for its larger screen than my old CRT 32" Sony Vega. I'm thrilled by the standard def picture from my two PVRs, and I haven't even made an HDMI upscaled connection yet - just decent RGB SCART leads. Since the vast majority of what I'll be watching for years to come will be SD not HD, this is important. Colour is excellent, the 100hz is rock steady and you have to get closer than proper viewing distance to see any evidence of digital artefacts. Can't wait for an excuse to buy something with a real HDMI output, maybe Freesat or a Blu-Ray. In-built Freeview is vice-free, with 10/10ths signal strength from Crystal Palace. Photos on the SD slot are every bit as good as a digital picture frame (only larger!).

Sorry Amazon, got mine for £499 from Richer Sounds, with only another £49 for the 5-year warranty.

Best buy Plasma TV Rating stars Sent: 01 January 2009
I'd probably have bought this from Amazon, but I've just picked this up from my local Comet store for £499. Bargain! Having read many reviews I went off to do some field research & came to the conclusion that the Panasonic TH-37PX80B was the best way to go. You get excellent value for money at this price.

I just wanted a decent widescreen with Freeview. I'm not interested in satellite subscriptions or HD stuff.....just yet. I'll be looking to upgrade my DVD player some time this year, but in no hurry.

Just got this home, out of the box, plugged it in & good to go within 5 minutes. It tuned itself into all the freeview stations (inc. BBC4 which I could never get before!) and i'm shocked at the quality. Very good indeed! Natural colours with good detail. To be honest, the LCD TVs have always struck me as being too harsh, but this is just *sweet* It's very straightforward to use & plenty of options to adjust picture, sound etc..i'm currently experimenting with 'eco' setting which adjusts the picture based on the ambient light in the room, it's working a treat.

The only beef anyone might have with this is probably the sound, though treble & bass can be adjusted. It's definitely good enough for me, but audiophiles might appreciate something with a bit more depth. However, I doubt other TVs in this price range fare any better.

Good TV ...until it literally blew up on me after 5 months Rating stars Sent: 26 December 2008
I chose this Panasonic tv because my first Panasonic tv lasted 16 years without a spot of bother. My second Panasonic was 5 years trouble-free before upgrading to this model. Bad mistake. Just over 5 months usage and it literally exploded on me one night. Local Panasonic repairers said the Power Pack had blown and has now been sitting in their showroom since Dec 22nd awaiting a part which is unlikely to appear this side of 2009. My new Blu Ray player(thankfully not a Panasonic) and my sons new XBOX 360 have not been usable without the use of this TV No TV should blow up after 5 months, so spare yourself the bother and inconvenience and look at another brand.

Outstanding standard definition performance! Rating stars Sent: 23 December 2008
I agree 100% with all the plaudits heaped on this TV in the other reviews. Great HD picture, glorious colour, etc. etc. Taken all-round, an ideal HD Ready TV for the lounge. Plus, it's a bargain!

However, I want to concentrate here on the standard definition picture. This is really important. While I too am eagerly anticipating all the HD goodies in store on Freesat, I also have to be realistic. The migration to HD is going to be a gradual process - much of our viewing is still going to be in SD for a considerable time yet.

Whilst SD is obviously inferior to HD, I wanted the `visual gap' to be as small as the technology can make it. For me, this was especially so, as my old CRT TV was a top-of-the-range Sony with a splendid SD picture. I didn't want the new set to look noticeably worse on SD broadcasts. I have to say my fears were realised when I toured the shops, looking at pictures on both LCD and plasma sets, from the major quality manufacturers. Freeview pictures varied from poor to awful; facial details and complexion in particular. That includes the Panasonic TVs with built-in Freesat HD.

However, the TH-37PX80B is completely different. It just blows the others away! It looked good in the shop, but when it was delivered and installed at home, the SD Freeview picture just looked fantastic. It shouldn't be possible, but it actually improved on my old Sony set picture. The Panasonic design engineers must have woven some powerful magic with the internal digital video processing on just this particular model.

So, my advice to anyone looking for a new lounge TV is: look no further, order this model straight away! And, with the money you will have saved by avoiding purchasing an expensive, inferior model, buy yourself a decent all-in-one surround sound unit. Add a Humax Foxsat-HDR unit to receive and record Freesat HD, and you can expect to have a really excellent TV viewing experience!

Amazing TV Rating stars Sent: 23 December 2008
Bought this TV after reading all of the very positive reviews on Amazon. It is quite amazing! I have seen plenty of LCD TVs that my friends own, and this one is so far better is is untrue! I have seen a very expensive Sony 37" TV which did not compare in picture quality to the Panasonic plasma. I was always proud of how well my Sony CRT performed in comparison to all the LCD TVs I had seen, I was worried that any flat screen TV would be as good. This one is easily as good as any CRT. I have a Virgin Media v+ box, and most importantly, it works really well with the standard broadcasts. I have set it up on the HDMI connection and it works brilliantly. On the BBC HD channel it is great and I am amazed at how good this looks, but more importantly, it works really well on the SD broadcasts. HD does look better, but so do the SD channels. I cannot recommend this TV enough! I was recommended an Onkyo upsacalling DVD player, and the output from this on normal DVDs is incredible. Overall, cannot fault it or recommend it enough, it makes LCD TVs look very poor in comparrison!
