Brilliant value for money Sent: 05 January 2009 This is a stellar piece of equipment. I have a computer science degree, so I was quite maticulous in my search for a descent projector, and I have definitely found the right one. I have no idea why anyone would spend towards a grand for a 40-50inch tv when you can get a hd projector for less than half the price.
I have my freeview box plugged into S-Video, and currently I am projecting at 90" and the picture is pretty clear. My laptop is plugged into HDMI, and when I watch High definition movies, it's like being in the movie with the characters, the picture is exceptional. Of course you can project it any size you like, and I had it to ridiculous proportions on a church hall wall once, and it was still good!
There is plenty of diverisity in input options. The only down side would be the lack of an audio option, but that's not a problem if you own a descent set of speakers, you can find converters for anything! At £400 it will be hard to get something even close for a better price, I fully recommend it.
Stunning... A word of warning though... Sent: 31 December 2008 Pondered long and hard about what to buy - a bigger TV (I currently own a 28" CRT), or a projector. This bad boy was what I went for. Now don't get me wrong, the projector is tip top. Small, light(ish), and threw a cracking clear image from a 360 onto my wall. BUT (and here's my word of warning), I would think again about buying ANY projector if your room is small to medium in size. The largest room in my house is approx 20ft x 15ft, and the projector image threw up an absolutely whopping picture on my wall - that in my eyes, well, looked a bit daft. It was like sitting on the front row of a cinema - but I suppose some people may just like that sort of thing. It looked to me that the only way round this would be to move the projector nearer the wall, but that would look even dafter, what with a £400 projector in the middle of the room and all. Unfortunately I had to return the item in the end..
So in summary, cracking bit of kit etc, but think long and hard about the logisitics of bunging a projector in your front room. The cables they bundle are also pretty useless unless you intend to have the projector near your DVD, Games console etc. 1m of cable is not going to do the job for the majority of people out there.
HD Projector Sent: 17 December 2008 Bought from Amazon and arrived very quickly and undamaged. Set up was easy and mounted on a ceiling bracket with a 10m HDMI lead to the blueray player. Negatively - small amount of rainbow effect (but only if you look for it), not a quiet as a whisper but when watching a good movie, you do not notice it.
positive - Start up is quick and on screen menu is easy and can adjust the side walls to be straight very easily. Many different inputs but can get away with one HDMI if used with splitter or crossover box for using other inputs (ps3/sky). For the price it is nice and small, does the job and if you get a recliner settee and set the projector 3.5m away you get 89" wide picture and a cool night in.
Would go for a 120" glass beaded screen for best results (electric of course!). Working on a cream or magnolia wall just as effective and not noticeable when first start using. A quality buy and 3000 lamp hours!!

Fantastic. Just awesome. Sent: 13 November 2008 For those of you wondering if you can justify spending £400+ on a projector, it's worth it, I shop on Amazon all the time but this is the first time I have ever felt compelled to write a review.
It arrived the day after I ordered, which was a great start. I now have it hooked up to my computer as I'm typing this as well as a PS3.
Watching movies, playing computer games, TV - It all looks great.
Im not using a screen yet, I'm just projecting it onto a light beige wall and it still looks crisp, clear and smooth.
Also I would like to make it clear that setting this thing up is a breeze, you do not need the manual they give you. But even that is well written and very, very helpful.
Overall. Ace product. Buy it now.
my first projector Sent: 07 November 2008 this is my first projector and im glad i choose the optoma HD700x.
after fiddling with my setup it was running after 10mins.
Great picture (even in the daytime or with the lights on!). my set up is:picture size 3x6 feet-when projector is placed 3 metres from flat, white painted wall. this size can be increased or decreased using the settings (so you dont have to move the projector at all). the picture can also be adjusted if the optima is on a slant to stop a 'pyramid effect' and keep the picture square, as mine is on a high shelf pointing down(but you can also flip the image(if ceiling mounted) or reverse image (if projecting onto a glass screen)
the settings are pretty endless to help adapt the optoma to your set-up.
i have a hdmi dvd setup and scart freeview box connected. picture is generally clear and smooth no matter the size or format.
apart from a few setup teething problems everything is most splendid!
