Not impressive Rating stars Sent: 05 December 2008
This is by far the worst nokia phone I have had. I am usually a big fan of Nokia phones, but the battery life is not impressive. the phone keeps freezing, and I know others who have experinced similar problems. I would not recomend this phone. I have sent it for repairs twice now!

Better than iphone or n96!! Rating stars Sent: 25 November 2008
I've had this phone for 8 months now and can't praise it enough! I needed a smartphone to deal with my need to get online anywhere, play movies and music, use office applications and e-mail, and make video calls. It does it all and doesn't make a meal of it. The applications available are almost limitless, from youtube to satnav it's all great! If you make sure your firmware is kept upto date (easy with the free nokia software) you can use the new micro SDHC cards, i use an 8GB card, stores plenty of pics, tunes, and movies (mp4 or 3gp). The unit itself is very sturdy and feels solid, and the slight recess of the screen prevents it from getting scratched too badly. I have recently tried the new IPHONE as i wanted to see how it compared, UGGGH!! The operating menus seem confused and the touch screen has the usual problems of over sensitivity and scratching. Worst of all though you can't send MMS, you need to buy an application to send your friends a picture!!?? Finally, a comparison to th N96. The N96 feels flimsy and plastic, the slider also feels weak, the touch screen is too fiddly. The nail in the coffin is the strange move by Nokia to improve the battery life by reducing the speed of the processor, it's SOOOO SLOWW. In conclusion buy the N95, buy a good micro SD card, ENJOY!! :)

Good all rounder but go for the 8GB version instead. Rating stars Sent: 21 August 2008
I bought this phone when it first came out and it is still going strong, as well as of course its new 8GB sister. It still works, 2 years on, in spite of being dropped and smashed open a fair few times. There are some downsides though, which continued despite Nokia taking my phone and upgrading its software for me.

Firstly, the battery life is not great and I need to recharge it about twice a day. Also, the shutter over the camera lens, while there to protect it from scratches, it keeps opening up when I pull it out of the pocket of any tight clothes I am wearing, which then activates the camera which takes time for me to switch off, and sometimes when it does this when I am putting the phone away it eats the battery time by having the camera unintentionally on.

Also the phone freezes a lot which is annoying and the final flaw is a problem with calling whereby I can hear the other person but they cannot hear me at times, and I hyave to explain to clients that I am not prank calling them

I have heard the new 8GB one is better so I would suggest you go for that one instead.

Great but flawed Rating stars Sent: 05 June 2008
I came to this phone from a Sony Walkman phone. The main differences I noticed straight away are that sound & video quality are a major leap up on the Nokia N95far clearer & better, on the down side the user interface seems a bit more clunky.

I use relatively few of the N95s many, many features, but those I use are good or excellent. The main downside is battery-life & a slow-to-respond camera.

The features I use include:
- Uploading music from my PC with Windows Media Player. An 8 gig card holds everything I want & the sound really is crystal clear.
- Taking short videos of my kids. The quality is fantastic & I have even pasted together a few clips using the on-board editor.
- Really good contacts system, with the ability to give multiple phone/mobile/email details to each person, v. useful when someone has 3 mobiles!
- Excellent FM radio.
- It sounds silly but the calculator & alarm functions are very clear & simple too.
- Basic text messaging is very good, & it is fairly easy to send to multiple recipients.

I have tried to use:
- The web (via my home Wireless LAN) this seems to be RUBBISH. I haven't managed to get a single connection to a site to work & inputing data via the numeric pad is awful.
- The camera ... for still photos it is terribly slow, you point, click, wait, wait ... then just when you give up & turn around it shoots a picture. This feature is not consistently bad, sometimes it will take a photo promptly, I wish I knew what caused the problems!

Really BAD things about this phone:

- There is no "auto standby" or "power-down" (as far as I have found) so if you leave the phone on camera or video mode the battery goes flat in a very short time. This seems utterly stupid to me ... surely it is not so hard to auto-power-down a device that is not being used after a few minutes? I have already had 2 or 3 occasions where my phone has been unexpectedly out of power as a result of this problem.

- The menus are very badly organised in my opinion. To give an example, you can look at the clock easily by clicking 1 button. Once in the clock you would expect to be able to adjust the time if it was wrong. Go to the clocks options or settings perhaps... well no. To adjust the time you have to exit the clock, go into the main menu, tools, settings, general, date and time, options, change. Yup: 7 steps (not counting the steps you have to take to exit from the clock in the first place!). This basic error of design permeates the whole phone, settings are hidden in their own blind alleyways, rather than being clearly associated with the particular feature they affect. Another example: some of the text-message-settings are hidden in:
Tools, Settings, General, Personalization, Language ... how would you guess in advance that they were there! Worse still, they are at the bottom of the list, so you have to scroll down the screen to find them even once you get to the "Language" settings page.

I haven't ever tried to use:
- Office applications like word & PDF readers ...
- Email on my phone ... no way, I have a convenient laptop for that.
- Videos / TV ... kids may use it, but I have a TV (2 actually!) for that.
- Maps / GPS. If I get this working & it is OK / useful, then the phone will have a real killer application, but I haven't tried it yet & note that it takes about 1 minute for my phone to launch the map application.

--

What do I think overall:
I have got to know my way around the menus now, and I would never try to take a moving photo with this phone, but it is amazing for good clear photos of still subjects. I love having a good radio & music centre on-hand.

Battery-life is only really a problem if you leave applications running by accident on the phone, if you carefully exit your applications battery-life with normal use is a couple of days. However, the failure to power-down is a killer.

If you have used Nokia phones before & are used to the settings menus you probably will have less trouble with them than me, as you will already be familiar with their layout.

I expect to own this phone for several years & I think it will do me good service ... I am a happy customer with a few gripes.

Great gadget, not great as a phone Rating stars Sent: 02 June 2008
Ok this is one of the best gadgets on the planet but having turned everything off, bluetooth, WiFi, 3G etc I charged it for 24 hours then made 3 5 min calls, 5min video, 2mins of game and 2 texts, 9 hrs later the battery is empty. The only useful tip I have is that by plugging in the charger, turning it on then removing the charger from the phone and putting it back in whilst the charger is plugged in it apparently helps discharge and recharge the battery better. Anyway I now have to buy a spare pay as you go phone in case im away from the mains for more than half a day! Its a bit like having the greatest car in the world that you need to find a service station every mile for!
