Decent printer with bonus WiFI Sent: 23 December 2008 I was looking for a cheap wireless printer for home use only (occasional letters, printing online statements, kids' project work etc)and this printer serves my needs adequately. The photo print quality is not brilliant but I do not plan to use that extensively. Copying and scanning are acceptable. Have not used the fax mode. LCD screen is quite user friendly. My main worry was seting up the wireless and I did that (Vista Home Premium, Sky Sagem Router) without any major problem from the CD and range is very good. Just take care not to connect the printer till all the drivers are installed and you are told to do so. As mentioned you'd need the Ethernet cable for the first time but not afterwards anymore. Also make sure that during the intial network setup the wireless LAN in the Printer Panel is disabled. Also I realised my cordless phone was interfering with the WiFi. I have looked in E-bay and compatible cartridges are not that expensive. Would have given 5 stars if the prints/copies were crisper but perfectly acceptable for home user.
Worth the money Sent: 20 December 2008 Under £100 for a smart looking nifty multi function device! Can't go wrong. The first one delivered from Amazon had a paper jam error during set up. No paper stuck in the machine... I literally just took it out of the box. I read on a previous review that another customer had the same issue, so I wasted no time messing about and just asked Amazon for a return. Within 48hrs...yes 48hrs, a replacement had arrived and was straight forward to set up.
I managed to set up the printer as a wireless printer but had not tried to print wirelessly yet. Fairly stright forward I would say to set up. Believe it or not, this is a replacement for my HP IIIP which I have had now 16 years [and still works]. I just like the fact that it is fairly small, lightweight, looks funky in black and can print, copy, fax [not tried that yet] and scan. I love the scan facility [remember to install Epson scan sw]. I am busy away scanning my old photo's so I can keep a copy digitally. I use the home mode on the Epson scan program and it scans a photo in around 8 seconds straight from machine to PC.
Another function I really like is that it can print double sided. Say you have a 48 page document to print. Once set to print two sided, it will print pages 1,3,5,7,9 etc... and then you feed the paper back in and prints on the back pages 2,4,6,8... you get the picture.
Only downside is that it is quite noisy when it starts to printi.e. has a loud jerk which can make you jump :-). Only had it now 3 days so I am sure there is more to discover...so far so good..
Hope this helps.
Excellent budget all-in-one Sent: 09 December 2008 Picked one of these up from PC world for £99, as I needed a scanner/printer which could be used by any PC on my network. Works like a charm. I have mine connected via ethernet to my home network, but the machine also supports wireless if you prefer. Scanning is excellent, supporting scanning to PDF and JPEG files, and the print output is very good. Print speed is super-quick compared to my old epson stylus.
The document feeder is very convenient for scanning, as you don`t need to lift the lid to place a document inside, which speeds up the scanning process significantly.
I have not yet printed any colour photo`s, but I would expect the quality to be only average as this printer only uses 4 inks. If high quality photo printing is essential, then you may be better off getting a 6 ink model.
At this price, its a bargain. Highly recommended.
Epson Printer sx600 Sent: 15 November 2008 I bought this printer as a Epsom replacement, However I did have problems setting it up as the references were not clear. However, my son managed to complete the task and it all works, so I am very pleased. It is much better than a man as it can multitask, but it is evident that a man wrote the instructions. Perhaps Epsom could employ someone with no IT skills to write their manuals and test them. On the important note, the printer/fax/scanner is fast and efficient and would strongly recommend this product.
ok for the cash if you get one in working order.. 8/10 Sent: 30 October 2008 i brought this as a replacement for a fantastic epson r300 i have had for 4 years that as now died, so always go for top range epson printers.
this is my first ever all in one effort for the home - office and the wifi was the biggest reason i brought this. this is one fast printer and scanner and copy feeder. wants to take off from the table as it makes such a racket at speed when printing put i think this can be slowed down in the software?. comes with a handy memory card reader for (hc sd cards) also and a usb port for you camara to print direct.
only points i would say is only 4 colour tanks so for photos the bigger brother sx700w might be a better modal if you can afford it as its £50 more but you get better scanner and 6 ink tanks with the sx700. but for every day printing and scanning this as to be the best buy of the year.
i have also read reviews on this printer regarding the way it drinks the ink? but epson have given you a high capacity black with the machine.
this is my second machine this week from amazon as the first one kept saying paper jam in sheet feeder when i first installed it out of the box when there was no paper in the machine at the time, but amazon replaced the faulty machine within 3 days and i must say the second machine is working fine, so fully test item when you recieve it and if you get this paper jam fault with feeder contact amazon asap and have item replaced as you could spent half the day trying to fix the unfixable like me.
all in all a great buy at this new price and amazon are much cheaper than the epson's websites (shame on you epson) and any other online site i have looked at. so get your bargain from amazon and there always ready to help if things go wrong like my order did. 10/10 amazon for support.
i would tell you to test copy a sheet just in case you get this paper jam error on the sheet feeder if you do send it back, as you will never clear the thing and it just locks the machine up, same if you run out of the ink in any tank it will not let you do a thing until you install new cart.
0/10 for epson's own website for being so expensive on the own products..
as i found out, it can take you more than 10 minutes just to unpack the thing and a good hour to set up inks and software and test print head linement. so the reviewer who said 10 minutes must have not put his clocks back a hour or working it without a pc as it took me over 1 hour at the least.
came with some free glossy paper thanks epson only wish you would give us all a cheap usb cable as you never get them anymore with printers why?
anyway wifi is the point in this machine and the way to go, as you do not have to keep the machine in the same room as the pc, it works a good way from the wifi point. shame there not got wire free fax machines yet ? then it would be totally wire free. i also found the software disk might need to be upgraded online as newer versions are on the epson website.
i found it best to install the disks that came with it first to get it working and then upgrade online as i found the disk had a software setup only option to get it working that i could not find on epsons drivers online.
apart from rip of ink costs and the odd problem's i have had, i am still happy with machine. over all 8/10 good effort epson.
